Amesbury Carnival Returns with Three Days of Fun and a Unique Sunday Event

Amesbury Carnival is officially back for 2027. With massive thanks to Stonehenge School who are supporting the weekend and giving permission to use Holders Field.

The green light means Carnival Committee can now move ahead with plans for a packed weekend built around three headline moments: Solstice Sounds on Friday 19 June, the Carnival Procession and Carnival Day on Saturday 20 June, and a completely new event on the Sunday, planned as something very different for Amesbury.

It is the news we have all been waiting for. Holders Field has long been a key part of the carnival weekend, giving the event the space it needs to welcome families, groups, performers, stallholders and visitors. The countdown is on!

The carnival is going ahead at Holders Field

A carnival needs more than enthusiasm. It needs safe, practical space for the procession to lead into, for people to gather, and for the day’s activities to work smoothly.

The field will once again act as the main hub for Carnival Day, bringing the community together after the procession. For many, that arrival onto the field is one of the best parts of the day. It is where the colour, music and effort of the parade turn into a shared afternoon of food, stalls, entertainment and catching up with familiar faces.

The announcement also gives local groups, volunteers and supporters a clear signal that plans are moving forward. Schools, clubs, performers and community organisations can now start thinking about how they want to be involved.

Solstice Sounds will open the weekend on Friday 19 June

The first part of the three-day event will be Solstice Sounds on Friday 19 June.

While full details are still to come, Solstice Sounds is set to create an exciting opening night and bring people together before Saturday’s procession. It also gives the weekend a wider shape. Rather than everything happening in one burst, the carnival can build from Friday evening into Saturday’s main event, then carry on into something new on Sunday.

That extra space in the programme matters. It gives people more choice in how they take part. Some may come for the music, others for the procession and field activities, and others may make a full weekend of it.

Saturday 20 June will bring the procession and Carnival Day

Saturday 20 June remains the heart of the celebration.

The Carnival Procession is the part of the weekend that most visibly brings Amesbury together. It is where local creativity takes over the streets, with groups, costumes, decorated entries and community pride all on show. Even before the first entry reaches the field, the procession creates the sense that something special is happening across the town.

Carnival Day at Holders Field will then give everyone a place to gather after the procession. It is expected to be the main family day of the weekend, with the field providing room for the activities and attractions that people associate with the carnival.

The final programme has not yet been announced, so people should watch for confirmed details from the organisers as the date gets closer.

For anyone thinking about joining in, this is the moment to start planning. Community groups can begin discussing procession ideas. Local organisations can consider whether they want to be represented. Families can get the date into diaries before June fills up.

A brand-new Sunday event will offer something unique

The biggest surprise in the announcement is Sunday.

For 2026, organisers are planning an entirely new event for the final day of the carnival weekend. It is being described as something very unique, giving Amesbury a fresh reason to keep the celebrations going beyond the traditional Saturday.

Details have not yet been released, which leaves room for anticipation. What matters at this stage is that Sunday is not simply being treated as an add-on. It is being planned as a distinct event in its own right.

That could change the feel of the whole weekend. A three-day programme allows the carnival to offer different moods on different days:

Friday 19 June

Saturday 20 June

Sunday 21 June

Solstice Sounds

Procession and Carnival Day

New event

A music-led opening evening

The main community celebration

A fresh and unique addition

The Sunday event gives the organisers a chance to try something new while still protecting the familiar parts of the carnival. It also gives residents and visitors another reason to stay involved across the weekend.

If Friday sets the tone and Saturday carries the tradition, Sunday now has the chance to become the talking point.

Why the three-day format matters

Amesbury Carnival has always been about more than a single attraction. At its best, it is a community effort, built by volunteers, local support and the shared enjoyment of seeing the town come together.

The expanded format helps that spirit grow. Three days mean more opportunities for different people to take part. It also spreads the energy across the weekend, rather than asking one day to do everything.

A family with young children might focus on Saturday afternoon. Music fans might head to Solstice Sounds on Friday. People looking for something new may be most curious about Sunday. Others will want all three.

That range is a strength. It gives the carnival room to welcome regular supporters while also attracting people who may not have attended before.

What happens next

With Holders Field confirmed, the next stage is announcing the acts and showground entertainment for the weekend.

More information is expected as plans develop, including details of the Friday music event, Saturday’s carnival activities and the new Sunday event. Anyone who wants to attend, take part or support the weekend should keep an eye out for updates from the carnival organisers.

For now, the message is simple and welcome: Amesbury Carnival is going ahead.

The dates to save are Friday 19 June, Saturday 20 June and Sunday 21 June. Three days, one community celebration, and a new Sunday event that promises to bring something Amesbury has not seen before.
